What exactly is EllaOne?

EllaOne is an emergency contraceptive tablet that is taken in a single dosage in the morning. EllaOne is the newest type of’ morning after pill’ on the market, and it may be taken up to 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected intercourse or a contraceptive mishap and still work. If taken within 120 hours after the incidence, EllaOne is estimated to be up to 98 percent effective in preventing pregnancy. In the United Kingdom, it is the most effective morning after pill1.

EllaOne is not a long-term contraception and should only be used once each menstrual cycle. It has no effect on your fertility and will not disrupt an existing pregnancy.

The hormone ulipristal acetate is found in EllaOne. It works by preventing eggs from being released from the ovaries during ovulation, lowering the chances of a fertilised egg implanting in the womb.

After unprotected intercourse, EllaOne should be taken as soon as possible. It’s safe to take it up to 120 hours (5 days) after sex and it’ll still work. It’s safe to take at any time during your cycle.
